Weather & Mead Updates
Yeah, as the video said above, crazy exciting day yesterday!
*I forgot to mention that my stove is electric, so I was unable to cook. No, I do not have a propane stove… I’m gonna order a portable camper-style stove next week to account for this snafu! I ate some of my fruit/veggie MREs (basically dehydrated stuff), straight up peanut butter (I ran out of bread and didn’t get more in time), and was mostly fine. My propane heater is a little small for this room, so I hadda stay near it to stay warm. Not too shabby – tho I think I’ll stock up on kerosene soon, as that heater did a better job of heating this room up.
Earlier this week, I changed the Projects page of my site from the demo stuff to my mead recipes; from here on, I’ll blog about my mead projects but the recipes will be over there. I’m gonna eventually find all my woodworking projects, landscaping projects and whatever else I dabbled in on that page, searchable by category.
I plan on ordering 4 lids for my 1-gal wide neck jugs I used to use for ginger beer fermenting so I can embark on a kinda big recipe! First thing first: Hade’s Crimson will be bottled December 4th; originally I was gonna rack the Orange Creamsicle to secondary on Dec 3, but will delay to the 4th so I can rack it to the narrow neck 5gal carboy that Hade’s Crimson is currently in. Yerba Mate Enlightenmint will be racked to one of my wide neck jugs on December 5th. I’m planing on making the darjeeling mead next, followed by a basic yerba mate tea mead. This base yerba mate mead will be racked into 5 1-gallon carboys with its own flavoring – mint, raspberry, and… idk the other 3 flavors yet. Will think on this more. Then… maybe a basic bochet? Who knows!
All I know is, come January 2025… I’m gonna have a lotta fermenting action going on! Come springtime, I’m gonna have so much mead aging… SO EXCITED about all these drinks!!!
Oh yeah, I finally bought a snow shovel today. This helped me a lot yesterday, I know… ha!
Side note – the Yerba Mate Enlightenmint mead has a lot of bubbles on top, which is why I put it in a bigger pot… I’m nervous that I’ll have a blowout, so best contain any mess!
