All puppies have successfully been placed with loving homes!
Sometimes in the late afternoon of December 7th, I left Harley in my bedroom, and Marley (who was in heat; I wanted to breed her when she was older but lo…) in the kitchen with her mama, Fluff. Some other dogs were separated and in the living room, with the door shut between kitchen and living room. I headed out to my bus to do some work on it for a few hours, and unbeknownst to me, one of the visitors here decided to let all dogs mingle. Fortunately, nobody opened my bedroom door and let Harley out… However, one of the visitors had an unfixed male Cane Corso-German Shepard mix and I found out the next day from one of my roommates – they had mingled and did the deed. Damnit, ok well lets hope for the best… weeks go by – nope, she’s getting bigger. I did the math – 64 days’ gestation would make her due date Feb 9th. But, no…
Saturday, February 4th, 2023. Just before 11pm, I had just wrapped up a coding assignment for the night and decided to kick back and watch some TV. All of a sudden, Marley is breathing funny… then there was some kind of huge slimy turd that popped out of under her tail… WAIT WHAT!!? NOW!?? Yup. She gave birth to 5 males and 1 female between 11pm Feb 4th, through 1am Feb 5th. I stuck by her for over an hour and half, and thought 6 pups was it. Kicked back on the couch again for about 2 hours, kept glancing behind me to make sure all was well. Finally I got up and went over… There was Number 7, dead. I do wonder if I had seen his birth, could I have done something? Ah, such is life. At least she has 6 healthy puppies, and has been responding to motherhood well.
No, I’m not keeping them all – although, joining our pack permanently is Number 2 (aka Captain Kathryn Janeway, or Capt’n). The other pups will be available for adoption as early as mid-April. If you are interested, please get in touch with me. I will be getting them their first shots, and possibly even get them microchipped if it’s not too early – and if I’m able to get to a vet in time, as I am still snowed in… Prospective adopters will be screened to ensure they will go to great forever homes! I will be doing a DNA test done on Capt’n sometimes soon and will share the results here (Embark). I will find out what the shots and microchipping will cost, and that will pretty much be the ‘adoption fee,’ possibly a little bit extra if you want me to include a small bag of kibble from The Honest Kitchen.
Marley and Harley both eat high quality kibble from The Honest Kitchen, which is an AWESOME company – once they found out Marley was having puppies, they sent some free dehydrated food samples! So once the pups start transitioning to food, they will be started on dehydrated food and move up to puppy kibble. All from… The Honest Kitchen.
Honestly!
If you want to try out some of The Honest Kitchen’s products, click here to save 20% off your first order over $30! They are SUPER AWESOME – they sent me 24 units of free dehydrated food samples for the puppies, and compensated me with some extra points for my order being delivered late. This is going above and beyond the call of customer service!!!

Predicted Weight Algorithm
I wrote a very simple Python script that inputs the Google Sheet I use to keep track of each pup’s weight (I try to weight them twice daily, but then the multiple snowstorms started to hit… now I try to do a weekly weight-in) and plotted a visualizer. I planned on adding height and paw size columns for each pup, and after at least two weeks, I should have had enough data points to do a linear regression and plot what their adult weight would be (men plan, god laughs – I’ve been too busy and exhausted lately shoveling snow and cutting/splitting wood to survive the multiple storms), as opposed to the very generic (and wholly unreliable) formula of:
ADULT_WEIGHT = (PUP_WEIGHT * AGE_IN_WEEKS) * 52
Following this formula, current predictions are:
Number 1 is estimated to be about 125 lbs when it is 1 year old. Number 2 is estimated to be about 117 lbs when it is 1 year old. Number 3 is estimated to be about 128 lbs when it is 1 year old. Number 4 is estimated to be about 127 lbs when it is 1 year old. Number 5 is estimated to be about 131 lbs when it is 1 year old.
Number 6 is estimated to be about 127 lbs when it is 1 year old.
(Number 6 does not have a recent 13-week weight)
